" known, but unwritten chapters "

keep kind. keep striving and work hard at your craft. it will pay off.

keep generous, keep open. keep on top of your game, whatever the rules, bend and break them; excel at your flavor of greatness, and apologize whenever absolutely necessary. be humble, and be proud of your accomplishments.

keep brave and adventurous.

keep promises, keep a planner, keep and finish to-do lists. make lots of plans with lots of varied people and really make a focused effort to respect the time you spend together. these are your compatriots, collaborators, and time is a precious commodity, so treat it with respect.

keep a love in your heart, a strength of will in your bones, and pens & paper in your bag.

it's going to be an interesting experience, this life in this time, your time...and there's so much to do.

tonight's homework:

thank someone with a true thanks. they deserve it, and you are lucky to know them aren't you?

(yes you are.)

---

" garden rituals "

---

when dreams begin to cross the threshold into reality, sparks fly, the mind expands, and each atom in the universe comes to rest. all matter manifests in a shape of your choosing, and the vibrations of magnetic fields caress.

we find ourselves in the proper place, and stillness permeates through the white noise. the clutter of abstract thought finds its alignment. people understand each other. you breath fuller.

we plant the seeds into the ether, and everything flourishes and blossoms.

you for at least a moment find your stride, and your soul beams.

tonight's homework:

create one piece of art in your life, success or folly, and revel in your complete ability to put something new into the world.

---

---

dreaming and wishing all good things into existence.

one pinch of luck, one dash opportunity, one smidgen threading the needle, and a touch of a whisper of tenacity to see the thing through.

one should not wait for beauty or love or chance or employment or experiences to arrive at their feet like a delivered package apropos of nothing.

one should feel free to encounter these things in an active manner, and meet them at the source of everything. in this manner, you'll never have to wait for the phone to ring; you'll be the one who created the line.

here’s to never fleeing from something, but always running towards something. to finding strange moments within the travel, to riding trains to far destinations, to walking the distance.

you’re always present with yourself, so what does it matter if your feet want to go left or right? eventually you may have the option to choose both, or an entirely different set of options. if time is short, of course you must choose. but what if your weekend is open and free for the scheduling of your choosing?

what elation and opportunity! what raw and unbridled emptiness could be filled to the brim with unknown discoveries! plural!

i’m always moving never stopping, so you be too, and maybe our paths will parallel. and maybe they will cross and tangent into other tributaries. but we’ll have had the great pleasure to have witnessed each other, adventuring in the world, smiling wide with teeth exposed reeling with a sense of such completeness.

finding inspiration in those artists who have found a way to live a creative life. love with geometry, techniques and skill-sets intermingling with each other.
collaborators, dreamers, troubleshooters, troublemakers, tandem adventurers, explorers, partners in crimes who are against not using your mind, heart, brain, soul, passions.
i travel far distances to seek out those same attributes in myself, and knowing that there is every potential that i too inhabit the same abilities as those who shine and instill wonder.
there may be many miles to go before i sleep, but this waking dream is ever-expanding.

very pleased to share a spread & ‘interview’ from “the adorned body” work-in-progress project featured in this online UK mag.     (pg. 112-123)
big ups to platformmag for the inclusion!
here below is the unedited questionnaire i filled out, because i suppose i rarely think about it, but it’s nice to be reminded that i have an opinion:

   Full name:
   c. bay milin

   Age:

   34

   Where are you from?

   albany, california, usa

   Where do you live?

   brooklyn, ny, usa

   What camera/cameras do you use?

    nikon D4 DSLR
   minolta autocord LMX TLR
   nikon fm3a
   polaroid land camera automatic 250
   polaroid cool cam 600
   holga colorsplash
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do/study? Or what do you want to do?

working photog with a day job. love to walk around city streets, peer around corners, immerse myself in as much nature as possible, and swim in oceans. i’m not in school anymore, but i like to study human nature and the state of my sense of hesitation. i love to find or create opportunities to flex my sense of bravery.

Tell us a little about your photography. Why do you shoot? When did you start? What is your favorite thing to taken pictures of? Etc

i love to photograph people and the world around me. i’m not sure that it can be more concise than that, but it’s my truth; i love to take photographs of all the things which catch your eye.
everything and everyone is so interesting and alluring, fantastic and grotesque, lovely and profane. there is a poetry to the way it all evolves, and at times i cannot help but to observe and then lift that camera to my eye in an involuntary compulsion. it is a controlled madness of mathematics and emotional consumption. i received a camera from my parents when i was around 8; it was a DISC camera, and i remember really being excited at the prospect of photographing elephant seals on the beach. they were so enormous and scary, and i was too far away to get a great shot. i think that each camera i have been gifted or bought and used since then, had echoed the want to perfect that first desire to document. my work meanders between people and places/spaces, but i feel like i get the most satisfaction when spending time with a person in their home, and collaborating on a series of portraits stemming from a loose idea. more and more these days, my nudes especially are most gratifying because as long as we have known our bodies as a species, we can still find it shocking, elegant, and every attribute in between. there’s something great about happening upon new angles, which both elates and create a sense of wonderment.

 hark!
to the complete death of self-doubt, fear, consternation, silence, and regret.
the city may be crumbling, the seas may be roiling, and the stars may be fading away into the dark bleak black of outer space, but you have the chance, right now, to make something of substance.
each moment a gift, each new conversation a positive charge to the soul, each whisper, each hug hello-goodbye, each i-love-you, each chat, each knowing silent shared bemused gaze.
these are my new gold brick, and i aim to build this house of creativity piece by piece.

something about that point in time where your impulse to create clashes with the fact that there are nothing but condiments and peripheral food items in your fridge.
to sustain the vitality of your body versus the continued exploration & development of your creativity…
it’s all a bit of a non-conundrum, as i stand in the doorway of the kitchen listening to the radio and not making any decisions just yet, and resolving to find a way to accomplish both.
outside, winter and the sun are having talks, and i think they’re soon coming to a seasonal resolution.

peep out my photog website

as i take one day for a winter-inspired fujifilm FP-3000b R.I.P. break, please take the time to peruse my other work, both film & digital.

as stated in previous posts, i am always on the lookout for collaborators, and have some perhaps zine-like ideas for this year. if you are interested, lemme know.

and if not, stay warm if you’re in a chilly clime, lovingly sit on it if you’re in my home-state of cali, check out my work, and then pretty much kick ass today.

many thanks to all the supporters (especially magpie—at—home, damagedintransit, jessdavisphotography, notkendra, my-memory-palace, rorrimmirror1987)!

neither the perception of distance or passage of time can shallow the depth of an artist’s will.
to work, to have a vision, the capacity to succeed in the creation of that vision, or to fail…it’s nothing to be taken lightly or balk at.
we find our strengths and offer ourselves the chance to be vulnerable. these are the traits of the truly brave.
whether in broad strokes or infinitesimal details, it is within the whole of this effort which is ever-inspiring.
so welcome back stephanielandinthestudio ; i very much look forward to what comes next, and am filled with an anxious yet optimistic sense of hope.
let’s make our time count for something, and let that something be great.

 yeah…we all have vices.

when i suggest shifts in other people, i’m really trying to motivate myself.
in my portraiture, i’m photographing other people’s strengths and bravery so that i may instill those qualities in myself.
if i can inspire that confidence in my subjects, if i can gain access to their time and have the opportunity to photograph them…then maybe i can glean some of that adventure in myself to be more of those qualities. i mean, not all the time, but at times.

 it’s weird. how about you?

spent some quality hang-time planning a project with peeps tobiety tonight.

i love how great artists don’t need to braggadocio their time away. they just are great and patient, giving and interested.

an interested person is an interesting person.

hopefully we can extend our notion of a collab into an actual object, and i can finally get my butt off of a ‘talking about it” mode, into a “doing something about it” one.

hug your local artist/inspiration-helper as much as you can. you’ll feel so much better about everything. high five!
