" the sublime anchor "

---

once in a while something very special happens. you note it and take note, no matter how slight or bold to action or circumstance. these are the moments to cherishing your life of making.

the creation and fruition of an idea requires development, sometimes years, sometimes decades. sometimes mere seconds. they are all valid if you see them through, and if the winds are right, if the light quality correct, if you ate a delicious healthful breakfast, if the planets are in alignment, if it is low tide, if so many things.

and when you've got lightning in a bottle, you can tell. when you've collaborated on something so simple and so profound, you know it's going to be transcendent.

these are the sublime anchors which keep you tethered to your craft, and lets loose your stresses as if every ache and pain in your skeleton suddenly exits your body. you find your footing, and the strength to push on.

when it happens, you find yourself standing at the far end of a long pier facing the open water. the light shimmers and folds in on itself as the surface ripples and quivers. you close the eyes of your experience and confidence, and trust your skills as you press the shutter.

nothing like finding strange buildings that you believed previously lost. i saw this façade one night while walking a friend home. it was raining, and it still stood out amongst the entire block of residential buildings.
with bold letters shimmering and flickering in its rainy night reflections, everything about it held my attention. the brick, the arcs of the windows and doorway, the earth holding position over the “Y” in the sign, portholes above regular windows.
it’s a very curious one, and one that i had to find again in the daytime. very happy to have seen it again, like a beautiful stranger that i only had a brief glimpse of previously. it was a pleasure.

more rain in the forecast last night. and for a moment, it seemed like all the rainwater runoff, was flowing straight into my shoes.
the squish squish squish of wet shoes, wet socks, and eventually wet feet.
and what can you really do?
i mean, each time i feel like breaking out new shoes, it begins to rain. just like each time i feel like my day has gone completely full-tilt bananas, i find out it’s the full moon.
things happen, and you deal with them. elevated or serene, these occurrences do not have to define us. you can meet them full-faced and allow them access to your heart-space, where if you wish, they may reside and affect.
this ole goddamn long life with my sore muscles down through the meat to the bones…who cares about sopping wet feet in a rainstorm?
i’ve other worries and amazing things to attend to.
 squish squish squish.

constant discoveries abound, and how we will continue to explore this world in the pursuit of truths, beauty, knick-knacks, paddwwhacks, and give-a-dog-a-bone.
ceaseless joys among friends and strangers, walking through this place in a time of uncertainty, and the adventure of being in it together.
who are the lonely few who will not join our reverie? and i say join in anytime, as all are most certainly welcome.

small gathering at the newly opened double-rinks in the park. what a great idea, to have one indoors and one out, and connected via an ice-path of sorts. genius.
near nothing replicates that joy, and i was very much happy to visit this place again after its long renovation. despite an overly complacent staff, lack of music, lack of sharpness in the blades, and no offer of open lockers so that you may provide your own lock from home, a great time was had. after around two hours straight, i was barely winded.
i used to play ice hockey for almost a decade as a child, and i’ve never lost that sense of awe and whimsy when approaching the surface of the ice, and taking a first gliding length out.
the air wrapping itself around your body like a casual jet-stream. caressing, low whistle past the ears, the sense of flight as you slice through crowds of fellow patrons and into the open night air.

dear followers, happy new year to all! the fact that we all made it here, now, and in this moment, means that whatever hardships we faced, we got through them and are actively stating, “we can strive for better, we can heal, move forward, we are valid, we are a force to behold.” in this very spirit, i would like to both welcome you to 2014, and thank you so very much for all the support in the past year. i most definitely felt a great broad stroke forward in my creative output, and would love to think that this stride will continue to strengthen in this new year. this being said, i would like to put out a call for participants & collaborators for continued and new projects. when you have a desire to create something, sometimes you have to ask for help, and rather than be stoic and proud solely in my singular accomplishments, i work much happier with others. if you or someone you know are interested & in the nyc area, please contact me with no hesitation:
the adorned body : looking forward to closing out this tremendously fulfilling project and put it to a lovely rest. i am looking for a handful of familiars and strangers to sit for me, be interviewed, and have their voices heard. (nudes, M/F/TG & everything in between, all appropriate ages, signed release)
cape cloak cowl : a diptych series about perceptions of conformity and the deeper truths of individuality, personality, and emotional states. (semi-nudes, M/F/TG & everything in between, all appropriate ages, signed release)
portraiture & nudes sessions , tailored, collaborative, and varied mediums. looking to set aside our daily lives for a second, and build a series of images where personality meshes with reality & the perception of fantasy. (nudes & clothed, M/F/TG & everything in between, all appropriate ages, signed release)
more to come! mini-zines! adventures! photowalks!
and as always, many many thanks to all. please feel free to contact me with your information on participation, leads to other collaborators, questions, comments, and any other suggestions and ideas!

look how the air sparkles and shimmers in the golden light of a winter afternoon. listen how the hollows shriek in the mighty storm winds.

we’re knee-deep, and our feet are flying. adventuring, exploration, and the endless possibility of

simple pleasures.

this is how i would like to spend my year.

join me if you’ve the spirit, constitution, and time to extend.

winterstorm hercules and the expected 10 inches of snowfall looming in the forefront of people’s minds. the trains are full and everyone looks a mixture of gloom and uncertainty.

i remain unworried and unfettered.

when i exit the station on the brooklyn side, i see the light coming out from the small tailor’s shop and just beeline towards it. a single man is cobbling a pair of shoes, and passersby quickly shuffle along the sidewalk.

looking up and into the night, sugary crystals float on invisible winds, swirling and lilting while the elation in my chest expands.

as a continuing follow-up to a previous post regarding the announced discontinuation of fujifilm’s FP-3000B peel-apart packfilm , holy shiaaaa! the current price of a single pack of the film (@ 10 shots p/pack) is now $17.95 at B&H . daaaaang. i remember not too long ago when it retailed at $9.49 and there was no limit to the number of packs ordered.
the new limit for ordering online is now 5, down from a few weeks ago when it was 10. i remain saddened by this, but am still glad i spent a grip on a full box on the day of the announcement.
sighs all around, and i hope that a magical photo elf will start leaving loose packs of this film all around my apartment for no reason.
pluuuus, the fact that the change.org petition just passed 10K signatures means that at least 10K photonerds love this film. are we that alone?
