there are superb examples of the mythic city all round here. just walking the streets, avenues, boulevards, and ways, you see flecks and sheens of it all over.
a once majestic era of art & design must have existed, because in between the shuttered-in conformist pantone façades of all neighborhoods, therein lies great relics of this gilded, baroque, playful, proud past.
is nothing sacred or safe from the smoothing and shining-up of every wall of every building of every home? can we not see that every detail which sets us apart and makes us desirable is fading? is waning? is disappearing? is gone?
these are the reasons you must walk the cities, see the last few remaining glimpses, and remember what once was can still be. there can yet be another magical age of creativity of expression, a new age of enlightenment.
if you feel that we deserve it as a collective people, then we should demand it through our observations, our voices, and our work. we have to make the time and effort count at all times, because being complacent to inevitable shifts and change is too easy.
and easy is boring.
